The number of classic Tiki drinks is relatively short compared to the current laundry list of nondescript, mediocre cocktails that are everywhere. The Scorpion Bowl Cocktail is an all time Tiki winner. Just take a trip back and try to picture your grandparents on a date. Out for dinner in a super cool exotic Chinese restaurant. Your grand pa wanting to be suave as well trying to get your Na Na a bit tipsy to hopefully get to third base, orders a VERY romantic Scorpion Bowl Cocktail. A cocktail made for two, The Scorpion Cocktail is a circa 1950’s exotic, erotic pantie dropper of a cocktail.

Original Scorpion Bowl Cocktail Recipe

There are, like a large number of classic Tiki recipes, no end to the number of recipes claiming to be “the” Scorpion Bowl recipe. As per usual we will defer to what we find as both the best and the most original recipe. We present the recipe from Martin and Rebecca Cate’s wonderful Tiki source book, Smugglers’s Cove.

4 oz. blended lightly aged Rum

4 oz. London Dry Gin

2 oz. Brandy

2 oz. Orgeat*

11/2 oz. Demerara Syrup **

4 oz. fresh orange juice

2 oz. fresh lime juice

This recipe serves 4 happy fun loving people or less if you are ubering. Served in a ceramic bowl set in the middle of the table everyone sips this happy juice up with their own straw and the fun and Tiki atmosphere soon shows up in abundance.

*Orgeat is an Almond flavored syrup

**Demerara syrup is a simple syrup make with varying measurements of both white and brown sugar.
